finals placings vrs byes

i know about the split in results that leaads to what place you get in finals - but with uneven rounds - ie some teams get a bye twice and some play easy or hard teams twicwe - how in the hell do they work it out ??

ie the team that plays the bottom team twice - gets 2 wins = 6 points , the team that plays the top tean twice records 2 losses = 2 points, but the team that gets 2 byes - gets no points ???

say what ???

In these situations, premiership points are irrelevant. It's all explained here:

http://www.sa.basketball.net.au/

Click on the "By-laws->Junior District" menu, then see appendix A2: "CRITERIA FOR PREMIERSHIP POINTS WHERE THERE IS AN UNEVEN BYE SITUATION IN DIVISIONS".

One discrepancy I see is that there is no penalty for a forfeit in competitions with an uneven number of byes. In comps with no byes, or an even number of byes, a forfeit (which gets you zero points, as opposed to 1 for a loss) has a detrimental result on your final standing.

Why would it be a discrepancy?
If you cannot be bothered to turn up then as far as i am concerned you deserve 0 premiership points

Easy Rider - that's correct. For a loss you get 1 point, for a forfeit you get 0 points. However, in a situation where there's an un-even amount of byes in a grade, the standings go on overall winning %. IE - in a 'normal comp' If you won 8 games, and lost 3, you would have 27 points (8 X 3 for wins 3 X 1 for losses) and a team who won 8, lost 2 and forfeited 1 would have 26 points.

In a comp with uneven byes the only thing that matters is win/loss ratio. IE - Both would be 8/11 (72.7%), so they'd use a head-to-head tie breaker. Therefore, the team with the forfeit has not been punished.

I think that's what Paul is getting at...?

Thanks Hoop Addict - you did a much better job of explaining what I meant than I did!

I agree, easy rider - there should be a penalty for a forfeit which is more severe than the penalty for a loss.

Thanks boys for the explanation
I can now see what paul a was trying to say and it is something that should be looked at via the Club's committees
