Absolute Disgrace....
Geelong have been a powerhouse in SEABL for the last 3-4 years and now this has been allowed.
Other clubs in Melbourne have been shafted on this ruling in the past.
This will open a cans of worms for the future.
Is Luke Kendall going to play SEABL this year under the same set of rules ????

It's a club with alliances to three different junior associations. That would make it stronger than your club, wouldn't it ?

The rules clearly state 200 games, so "Sabre" tell me why Herbert can be allowed to succesfully appeal with 150 games.....
The press release said "In the best interest of Basketball".
"Late 2007 Herbert was a development player with Dragons when Bridgewater signed" Herbert was playing big minutes then and Geelong knew that it was a fair chance he would be restricted then.
What a load....
The best interest for Basketball is to get another unrestricted local player and give them a spot in starting 5.... It's not like they won't be right up there without Bridgewater....
Absolute disgraceful act from ABA Commision .....
IMO this is not in the best interest of basketball it is in the best interests of GEELONG SUPERCATS...... Hope Rockets meet them in Nationals this year and kick their ASS........

How can you say that it is not fair. Why should the Geelong association be penalised for developing one of its own? He has played his whole life with Geelong. They should be reaping the benefits from the system in place, not penalised. The correct decision was made.

It is NOT an association and not a club - its one team with no development program, input or juniors...

How can he have played for 'Geelong' when it hasnt and doesnt exist!?!?

Fist of all GST, how dare you use the name Tamba in your nick, you are not worthy to tie his bootlaces !

You two need to get over this Geelong association stuff. Geelong Supercats (GCBA) WAS affiliated with GABA when they rejoined SEABL (then CBA) in 1997. At that time all of the local players came through from GABA juniors and at least 70% of the squad had to be locals and playing with GABA comps. This was the case for many years.

It was GABA who severed this relationship in 2002 when they found it necessary to enter a BigV championship division team, which forced GCBA to become an association in its own right.

It is history now that the ill fated experiment by GABA lasted only one season and despite GCBA extending the olive branch on more than one occasion it has been pushed away by the various small thinking individuals on the GABA board.

In the classic, 'if you forget history you are doomed to repeat it' scenario, we now have GABA entering a senior mens BigV team again.

To bring this thread back on topic, however. Nathan Herbert's junior basketball career with GABA was NOT part of the application to review his restricted status. Therefore his junior association is not part of this debate.

Anon 176877, Because BA have clearly realised that 12 minutes a game is not an adequate measure to be restricted and 200 games or 8 seasons is also a bogus level to determine club loyalty.

BUT !!!! they are the rules at the moment. change the rules first then allow it. I have no problem with Nathan playing, great player at this level and fan deserve to see the better players out there. I do have a problem with the fact that the rules were changed temp. for this case.
Is every rule going to be tested now.....
