Jump stop tactics

Hi All,

When a player is driving to the hoop and has a defender in front of them, what is the benefit of prior to jump stopping carrying the ball in the air in a circular motion and then jump stopping- as per Derrick Rose against the Bucks?

It is a common move but I would like to know the benefits?

Players use the ball movement to make the defense react, giving them a chance to read the defense and make their next move. the better the player the more convincing the move the more explosive the next move.
