A coupla footy players that didn't know anything about the events of the last few days, kinda fumbling along about whether he likes footy and the like was disappointing.. (only 1 caller, it was pretty short)
The only thing that MAY be of interest to you..
(or maybe not) - ' Here they've got Ballinger and Gilchrist , who are the main scorers, and I've been asked to play a defensive role, rather than a scorer'
Interesting ?

Thanks Camel 31. Does this mean we expect Balls and Gilchrist to score 40+ a game while the rest defend. How about players play both, once again sack scotty

I think some players are struggling with their roles and how they fit into the team.
(the radio commentators didn't even know there was a game on here tomorrow)
The point likes to tug his singlet a lot -
I'm doing this by myself.
Not sure that was/is his role.

STOP THROWING UP BULLSHIT THREES THEN!!!
His lack of scoring isn't the major problem. His FG% 3P% and turnovers ARE.

Scotty's job is probably safe because he does a good job of blaming the players and the refs. With regard to the refs he doesn't say it to the media although its evident by the amount of complaining he does during a game. With regard to the players, his arguments are always the same, they looked really good at training, or we practice press breaks all the time. In other words, he teaches his team the right things, they just don't do it. He has never come out and said if I had tried a different rotation, it may have worked better or something along the lines that would give him ownership of the problem.

He was pathetic they were pathetic I though Wildy had some interest in BBallwe know Bonehead doesnt.
Cant see how going to replace a coach when got a import that cant keep control of the ball making turnovers into a art form now or even score with open shot.
Saw a post saying to make Groves PG wow what a huge idea so he can do more turnovers.
Scotty might be out of his league and better systems need to occur but cant blame Scotty for Groves poor shooting or stuffing up dribbling the ball etc.

I think Tez has the ability to be exactly the type of player we need with just a little bit of advice (eg. stop forcing threes, penetrate more and don't over-dribble). Either he's not getting that advice or he's too dumb to use it. It is that simple a problem IMO, that's why I can't believe we still have a problem, he's a tremendously talented player... maybe not the smartest player...

XztatiK you've summed it up well mate.
Can someone hook the man up with Hollywood seats so he can seat next to the coaches?
We might be able to close out a game then

Isn't the over-dribbling looking or waiting for an opportunity to penetrate? It's easy to say "penetrate more" but how many players are really that effective in doing that unless the offence (and resulting defence) provides opportunities?

If the gaps are not there, then that is the time to keep the ball moving around the arc rather than holding it waiting for gaps that won't come (because then the defenders can just collapse on the dribbler). Gilchrist and Groves are both guilty of holding the ball too much in that situation.
Good ball movement will open up the gaps for the drive and dish. This is the biggest problem with our offensive sets, that we seem to have no natural ball movement or flow to the offense. This begs the question whether it is really all a coaching problem after all.

Spot on "XY"
Back in the olden days when I was playing/coaching, one of the prime thought process considerations was to think "what can I do with the ball" before I got it, rather than "now I have the ball, what am I going to do with it". Makes a big difference.

XY, good points. Seems our main mover off the ball is Ng, usually cutting baseline.

Adelaide has most definitely caught a case of "stand and watch" syndrome on offence. One of the most frustrating things about watching them this season is that I cannot tell what we are trying to accomplish on offence. What is the strategy being employed that will result in us getting the ball through the basket. It is also alarming how many times we can turn the ball over on the first play coming out of a timeout, AFTER Ninnis has had his input.

XY and Ushiro covered it pretty well.
Dribbling the ball on the spot for a few seconds will not create a gap, it just allows the D to settle and makes it even harder to drive IMO. He needs to make a decision as soon as he touches the ball and move it on straight away if he's not going to attack.

Mutley - It MIGHT be that our point tugs the singlet a lot - 'I'm doing this by myself' Maybe?

I think the offence is a huge problem. How many times can a PG run a high screen? Everyone else stands around and watches whilst the shot clock runs down.
I think Tez would be far more effective moving off the ball, maybe a few picks across the baseline to curl up to the 45. He'd get some open looks, maybe a chance to put the ball on the floor toward the hole.
At the moment, Gilchrist holds the ball for about 10-14 secs before doing anything. Why not kick it to the wing, make a cut down the lane off the big guy, then replace to the top of the key. If nothing comes of the pass and cut, he's still at the top of the key with 10 secs left on the shot clock - exactly what is happening now anyway.
The Sixers need disciplined ball movement, boxing out, and defensive pressure. All basic things that generate easy points and prevent them from your opponent.
Scotty - please print this and give it to Richard Hill to hold. Read it just before the game, and maybe again at half time to remind yourself.

The main issue seems to be that no one moves with out the ball so when Gilly looks for a pass everyone has an opponent standing next to them.
Is it that no one is moving?
Or is it that the ball isn't moving?
Or is it both and they are compounding each other?
They really need to set more screens (even double sceens) to get the shooters open.
Hell set more illegal moving screens because the refs sure don't call them.
Holmes, Burston and Herbert all seem to have that extra edge, toughness, a bit dirty.
So they should be happy to tweak the rules a bit to get NG and Balls open.

Great evaluation of our ball movement by all posters here . If we can see why cant they do something about .
I was told and believed that Scotty would practice guys harder and work on plays and structure more.
Even if Gillys bad habits it is up to coaches to rectify .
But saying that would you as a player be making too many moves under the 10 sec mark with gilly holding the ball.
Just hoping that with Burston back and hopefully games under his belt we will get more structured and hopefully find Ballinger more .
Sorry Xztatik though cant agree on Groves the guy is a import dud . Really I am sick of hearing how good he was at the Gong that was a long time ago and only a memory the guy cant even keep control of the ball on the drive or even basic dribble now thats without his defensive and shooting limitations.
Silly thing is that although coaches not strong if we keep Burston fit and replace Groves well we have a real chance to go far into finals as no team is out of reach

Agree with XY - Adelaide have no "Plan B" when the dribble penetration gives them nothing... which is often the case.
Set screens for Ng, let Balls post up, get Burston cutting... it's not a difficult game.

'What do you do besides basketball?'
'It's all about basketball really.Basketball's my thang.'
'Thanks for coming in.We seem to have run outta conversation.'
'Just one question then before you go. How many of these quarters do there appear to be in a game?'
Anyways- Seems like it's dribble-drive motion, with movement after creating a driving lane, all based on Gilchrist penetrating.

...and the dribble drive is the biggest load of rubbish ever to be foisted on this state.
