Chris Goulding confirmed to Melbourne United

Melbourne United is delighted to announce that star guard and League MVP runner up for the 2015-16 season, Chris Goulding, has re-signed with the Club for a further two years.

Goulding, a favourite amongst Melbourne fans and members, averaged 18.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game during the 2015-16 NBL season, leading Melbourne to an 18-10 record, and the NBL's minor premiership.

I assume Holt won't be back.

And neither will Warrick, now that they've signed Wesley they'll be looking for a big man with range. (David Andersen would be nice....)

Personally, I'd rather Holt than the selfish Goulding but hey I guess he is a fan favourite over in the strange world of the Vics

Why only go with 1 import and not even use the asian rule on Holt?

Wesley will be their Asia/Oceania player.

If they have the money they could still cut players to sign Holt and/or another import or 2?

So their team is

Anerson, Patton
Majok, Wesley
Blanchfield, Barlow, Odigie
Goulding, Hadziomerovic, Odigie
Jackson, Tomlinson

Not a bad team, plenty of flexibility. However will look vulnerable when a stater is injured. Hope Anderson can stay fit given his age and Jackson brings his form over from nz.

If a starter gets injured they could bring in an import.

If Andersen signs and that ends up being the team, then my thoughts:

in terms of talent it's fairly similar to last year.

2 points of difference:

- The return of Barlow adds depth.

- The things that Andersen, Jackson and Wesley change the overall shape of the team. It'll be tougher, more competitive on the rebounds and better defensively than last year, while retaining plenty of scoring, plenty of outside shooting etc

Overall I much prefer the overall balance of the new roster. Games aren't won on paper but I do like the mix of different skill sets they've thrown together.

eg:
- Majok- pick and rolls, cuts high to low, low post moves, second chance points

- Wesley- bread and butter is low post. Can hit the occasional 3 and mid range too.

- Andersen- Bread and butter is mid range game but is a good outside shooter and has touch near the hoop too.

All 3 are competitive on the boards at a minimum. Kickert was a liability in terms of giving up too many boards.

Jackson and Tomlinson are traditional point guards. Distributors.

Goulding, Blanchfield, Barlow, Hadzi and Odigie bring a variety of skills. Plenty of scoring, outside shooting, length on D, etc.

I'm hoping the 36ers are talking to Holt as their Asia/Oceania player.

Holt played quite well in Spain, he may have offers elsewhere?

Surely Holt will be playing in the NBL next season. His status will make him attractive to every other club.

I'd love Holt at Perth, he seems to enjoy Perth Arena too!

I would think a Damo and Holt backcourt would be a defensive nightmare for the opposing backcourts.
