I hope that with the added exposure of having the flag bearer that we are able to see more basketball during the Olympics.

Literally the perfect selection. Patty Mills is a guy who is proud of his culture and also proud of our shared nation. Rather than tearing people apart he brings them together. He is an absolutely fantastic role model and a testament to what someone can achieve if they believe in themselves. Absolutely rapt that Patty Mills is our flag bearer. He is the embodiment of everything a flag bearer should be.

#014 - Ooooorrrrr, this will be the 4th Olympics he's represented Australia, and he's been one of Australia's best and successful athletes at his chosen sport in that time.
This isn't even mentioning his off-court contributions.

The dude is a flat out legend. Not a token.

Side note: Basketball has had 3 Flag bearers over the past 6 Olympics ; Gaze Sydney 2000, LJ London 2012, Patty Tokyo 2021

Congratulations to Patty on his selection.

He is one of the nice guys of basketball and sets great example as a role model to younger players.

Also being indigunous he does not push that area compared to others where others really go over the top with how they push it down your throat.

if this was Adam Goodes or something I'd agree with you, but this isn't that.

Sure, there may have been an element of "let's be multicultural" about it, but can you really name a more deserving flag bearer?

It's just a happy convenience that he so happens to fit the political climate as well. But if this is going to be a political appointment than it is one that I am happy with, appointing someone who brings people together rather than tares them apart. Someone who doesn't play the victim but stands as a shining role model.

I wont be taking this away at all from Patty Mills. Call it what you want he is the clear choice no matter how you cut it.
