Nznbl Panthers suspended

While it's in the nznbl thread I thought I'd start another one dedicated to it. That one had some links but this is a bit more detailed with allegations.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/indian-panthers-suspended-for-remainder-of-nbl-season-over-sufficiently-serious-allegations/MDEFDU34BBGRPON6TZQPNN4JUY/

So it was fishy that they were forfeiting the next game, now the non payment of players and staff has been raised, but also the treatment of players.
Payment issues aren't rare, but it states serious allegations of mistreating players. The team is owned by the Indian league and it's CEO. It's certainly a bad look not paying players, but must be major issues to warrant the complaint living in a country like new Zealand. Can understand with current conflicts ATM that could cause safety concerns in a few countries, but NZ is safe and one of best countries to live in.
A lot of warning signs early but had a semi reasonable excuse until the coach almost immediately quit. Would have thought the league would have had some clue as to what was going on when that happened.
Thought it was a pretty good initiative trying to tap into the Indian market, but if this is what their own federation does along with a dodgy executive can see this never being trialled again.
Maybe Larry can buy the team and resurrect it (joke).

Well said phantom. I was skeptical of the initiative but more because I just thought they'd be shit and draw small crowds. Never could’ve predicted what a farce they’d become.

Don’t think much of the roster will want to remember this experience, and it seems the panthers will be a very small footnote in NZNBL history.

I’m interested to see how they sort out fixtures from here, it’s a big mess they’re in.

Hopefully this means Queenstown get their team next season.

Also hope big Li sticks around somewhere, he’s been fun

The Indian Professional Basketball League (INBL Pro) is owned by multiple individuals, mainly from Melbourne, including Rupinder Brar (Founder & Chairman), Abhishek Yash Tyagi (Founder & Co-Chairman), Dushyant Khanna (Founder & Director), and Praveen Barish (CEO).

I'd still prefer a 36ers reality show over this.
