NBL hosts European powerhouses

Anyone seen this on the NBL site? Sounds exciting but so did the NBA pre-season games that were meant to be ... sadly became like pick-up games.

Opening line is, "The National Basketball League (NBL) is proud to be hosting the Pavlos Giannakopoulos Tournament which will take place outside of Europe for the first time." Teams are Panathinaikos and KK Partizan.

One game to be played between these 2 clubs in Melb @ John Cain Arena on 18th Sept and then the tournament to include Adel 36ers and Sydney Kings on the 21st/22nd @ Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.

Won't get to either game but I do hope that they send legit teams.

A bit of a shame both of the 36ers games are being played in Sydney.

A potential downside to these sorts of tournaments just before the start of the NBL season is what we saw with the JJs at the FIBA world club championships last year with serious injuries to key players that then compromised their roster and game results for the first part of the season.

Injuries can happen at any time in any game so not sure I would be too worried about it. Is doing your knee in a pre-season game any worse than doing it in Round 1?

Will being given the chance to showcase yourself in 2 games like this be a selling point to attract potential high level imports for Adelaide?

You would think it wouldn't hurt as would get them exposure against top level opposition.

It worked for Darius Days when the Chinese team he was playing for came out here for pre-season games last year and even played a game against Illawarra.

Exactly this, it's a leg-up from uncle LK for the ugly stepchild.

@Perthworld, hopefully helps any potential sale of the ugly step child.
