Harrell Positive Drug Test

Seems the circus is starting already for the Sixers season with Harrell found guilty of a doping violation in China. Appears to be cannibas based so probably low end in the grand scheme of things but sure gets things off and running early with the annual 6ers shitshow :)

Not exactly shocking after he got done with 3 pounds of weed a few years back. Went from a felony to a misdemeanor, would have been helped with a pricey lawyer.
I wonder if he would have faced a Greiner situation in China if he got caught with a bit there?

Sixers never fail to deliver, so consistent.

Too bad there's no reality TV show covering their constant drama.

The fact that in 2025 it is still considered a banned substance in sport, let alone not legal, is a poor blight on humanity.

Weed. Whoopty doo. So what is the likely banning situation? I know cooks took his ban in the off season and it never affected him in the NBL.

I'm just here for the highs and lows of the NBL season

Trez certainly has a budding relationship with NBL controversy

Let's be blunt, weed be surprised if the 36ers get through their season without many more dramas

"The fact that in 2025 it is still considered a banned substance in sport, let alone not legal, is a poor blight on humanity."

Whether its legal or not for private use doesn't really change whether or not it should be banned for athletes. Weed can mask other drugs (performance or recovery enhancement drugs) which is why, regardless of whether its legal to consume, its in a long line of other legal drugs that athletes can't have.

"Weed can mask other drugs"

This is a theory from 2005 that has never been proven. We have real-life anecdotal evidence that this is not correct, which is why universities have not wasted time "testing" the theory.

The theory comes from the fact that cannabis MAY act like a diuretic, and even then it is a mild effect unless consuming substantial amounts in very short periods of time.

The reason for the ban is that we have to play by the World Anti-Doping Agency, which states that weed is banned because it meets 2 of these 3 criteria

It poses a health risk to athletes.
It has the potential to enhance performance.
It violates the spirit of sport.

ME is definitely incorrect and NthGiants your recollection is correct.

This is the initial statement by the NBL dated Feb 11.

"A mandatory provisional suspension (effective immediately)"

https://nbl.com.au/news/statement-on-xavier-cooks

The Kings hosted Adelaide Feb 13. He was then issued with a 1 month period of ineligibility by SIA (Sports Integrity Australia), on behalf of Basketball Australia, which was completed on March 7, 2025.
