The top 6 teams have been decided in NBL1 North with the reg season ending tonight.
1. Brisbane Capitals
2. Gold Coast Rollers
3. Sunshine Coast Phoenix
4. Mackay Meteors
5. Southern Districts Spartans
6. South West Metro pirates

(Rockhampton Rockets and Ipswitch Force had the same w/l as 6th place but missed out on percentage.)

"The NBL1 North Finals are unique to the rest of the country, hosting the only best-of-three-game series across the highest-seeds home venue from the 2-4 of August."

Details are at: https://nbl1.com.au/news/2024-conference-finals-explained#:~:text=The%20NBL1%20North%20Finals%20are,the%202%2D4%20of%20August. (NB*** But, all the dates dates seem to be wrong????)

Should be a great series with close games all round. Predictions? No way! Honestly anyone's series to claim.

Brisbane Capitals (81) defeated Sunshine Coast Phoenix (74)

So, the North GF comes down to a contest between the Brisbane Capitals and Southern Districts Spartans.

Brisbane Caps earned their passage by defeating Sunshine Coast Phoenix in a very tight contest, start to finish. 33 x lead changes, biggest winning margins at 7 and 9 and several other stats that were so similar, all reflecting how tight this contest was. Both teams were absolutely on-song showing how much both wanted this win.

Next weekend,ie Friday, Saturday and Sunday, if required, Capitals will host the Spartans in a best of 3, GF series'.

This GF series will be hosted by the Caps but not at their home in Auchenflower (due to stadium reno's). Instead, Northside Wizard's home court at Zilmeer, just north of Brisbane, will be used. As both of the GF teams played the Wizards during the reg season, there will effectively be a neutral court with no home-court advantage.

We should be treated to a match up of the ages between both teams' PGs who will control their respective teams' fortunes. Tueta for the Caps, and Wigness for the Spartans. This is how NBL1 saw their contributions in each of their semis tonight.

"It was Isaih Tueta who showed his class and experience for Brisbane in the absence of Sam McDaniel to finish the semi-final with 28 points, seven assists and four rebounds with 6/10 three-point shooting."

"Tamuri Wigness has had the best season of his career and continued his dazzling form with another 37 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals with 14/28 from the field, 4/9 from downtown and 5/7 at the foul line."

This series should actually offer some very good match ups, throughout.

Who will win and be crowned NBL1 North Champions? I know who I want that to be but like the rest of us, will have to wait and see.

Any word if McDaniel is back this weekend for the GF? Saw he was enjoying the AFL game on the weekend whilst the match was on. Caps lucky Sun Phx were down Earnest Ross but probably a like for like out for both sides. Should get a nice 3 game series out of this one Rob!

Sam's NBL1 season is over due to NBL pre-season and safety considerations. Happens every year, at finals' time. Will definitely miss his regular high 20's score-line and his defence to make life hard for Wiggins. Tim Soong will also be missed (leg injury) as he is a vital part of Cap's bench.

Thanks for the update Rob! Should be a cracking series then, hate to say that it may be a Spartan sweep.
