Import Izaiah Brockington (SG) to Breakers

NZ Breakers have apparently signed 6.4" SG Izaiah Brockington as their 2cnd Import leaving just the PF spot to fill.

Looks like he averages 15ppg in g league so no slouch. And 3% high 30s.

Watched some clips and he's good off the dribble with a strong drive so probably exactly the player they need in that 2nd guard spot

Agreed Kolzee, looks to be what the roster needed.
Athletic guard who can create some offence when required or sit in the corner and hit the 3.

Looks like he tore his ACL in a pre draft workout and then went undrafted. Got a few contracts with N.O but didn't amount to much.

Can’t wait to see the final import and then some pre season hit outs.

You mean the Breakers signed a guard who's above-average from 3, has gotten stats at the G-League without a high usage rate, has a low turnover rate and has some athleticism in his game? Sign. Me. Up.

His size will accompany Taylor Britt and PJC well at the 1. Need to watch some more film in the CEBL with the Bandits.

He looks solid without being stunning. The import bar has risen seriously year after year for awhile now. However, Barry Brown Jnr had to trial for a spot and turned out to be a great get. Breakers fans will be hoping that Brockington can consistently get buckets in low shot clock and broken play situations because it will take pressure off PJC. Mooney was OK, but he was inconsistent and for a supposed shooter he struggled at times.

The other import will make or break the team. I would love to see Anthony Lamb or Darius Bazley. That type of player will bring the x-factor the team needs to compete against the better squads.

I'd love to see a player of that ability as well but realistically I think they are both above the NBL pay level and the level the Breakers are looking at paying for their 2nd/3rd import.

Brockington was 16, 5 and 2 over 37 games in his last g-league contract with shooting at 45% and 38%.

That's almost on par with Kendric Davis, far higher than Omari Moore and almost identical to the two new JJs imports.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's going to set the world on fire but I think he'll perform better than the 2nd/3rd imports for the majority of teams.

Only averaging 10 ppg in Canada though.

The CEBL is a mid-tier league, not really the level of the NBL, it will be interesting to see how he goes.

Over 8 games!! Versus 80-90 games in g league

G-League isn't a great standard or barometer of anything. Keep in mind 48 min games, absolutely zero defence and winning is irrelevant so take any stats out of that bogus league with a large grain of salt.

The Canadian league although low standard is at least legit basketball. He played on the same team as Mitch Creek.

Yeah definitely taken with a grain of salt but the evidence shows the stats of most players who transition from g league to nbl correlate pretty well (maybe 2ppg or so reduction) and certainly don't drop to the extent you're suggesting they should from having no defence!

Well I've been around the block a few times I've been following the NBL hard for about 35 years I've seen so many supposed gun imports flop in this league. I'm not trying to go hard on you NZB fans I know all fans don't want to consider their team's new import signing might be a dud. I had these exact same discussions with JJ's fans last year when they signed Craig Sword.

The NBL are calling this guy a G-League star just don't be surprised if he doesn't last long is all I'm saying.

JJs brought Sword in as a role player off the bench, so not sure that's a good example. But agree it's usually a case of wait and see how new imports go as a fit in the NBL style and with their team.

NZ have one of the best records for import selection in the league going back to the Blackwells last ownership stint so not overly concerned about what numbers he put up where.

Not saying he's going to be an MVP candidate but like Kolzee I think he'll likely be better than a lot of other teams 2cnd and 3rd import selections.

I got told Scott Roth has an impeccable record with getting the most out of imports too, just sayin.

No one on here is saying he's a star or going to be the best at anything unlike the JJ’s supporters who were pegging Sword for DPOTY before he had played a game because Doyle said he was a great defender.
What I am saying is NZ gets their imports right more often than most l other teams so just because he’s played G League doesn’t mean he’ll be a dud or the next Craig Sword.
Every season someone rolls out that one of the Breakers imports will be on a plane after a few games because they didn’t put up enough numbers in their last league and the generally pan out to be a good fit and above average.
He’s likely be affordable leaving more on the table for the Import PF.

Ha ha, that reminds me about the early judgements on brantley. He was tagged as the first import likely to be released. Ended up he was too good for the league!

Anyway without prolonging the debate my pick is he's good for 12-14ppg with handy percentages and in that case he'll be a positive addition in my book

Yeah that Brantley comment aged well.

For what it's worth, Sword was a good player. He was just a bad fit.

The G League has gotten a lot better in recent years. The duds don't seem to be coming out of G League.
