Ignite Cup. Money grab?

Just got notified that Ignite Cup tickets aren't included in annual membership tickets and we have to pay more to go to those two games.

Is this uniform across the league or have other clubs included those games for members? Or is it just an additional cash grab by the NBL?

For Melbourne United, "*The Ignite Cup games classified as "Home" will sit outside of our NBL26 Membership Packages, and will be available to be purchased at a later date once the venue has been confirmed."

Same here in Perth but this was confirmed by Mark Arena few months back. The tickets here are bloody pricey ~$20 more than a finals ticket.

FYI I paid $206 for 2 gold seats in the same row as my season tickets, how much have others paid around Australia?

For what it's worth the NBL1 West final is end of August at RAC Arena and remaining seated tickets in the same area as my Cats season ticket seat are also ~$100 each. RAC Arena is a big factor on price increases here, from memory the NBL1 West final cost me ~$40 less last year.

All games are by definition a money grab. I suspect the real reason for the Ignite Cup is to be able to sell the TV rights separately from the regular season. The talk has been that the IC will be on Channel 7 where as the regular season will still be on ESPN & Channel 10.

Damo 78 I believe you are a Taipans supporter .
if so read the fine print . The Taipans second Ignite game is New years Eve so they have included that in your 14 game package and taken another game out that you now have to buy along with the first ignite game for what looks like the same price as a normal season ticket. I am sure the Taipans can justify it but given their recent , and current form to be asking members for more money now is pretty mid . It seems that Taipans are only getting 1 extra home game but asking for Members to pay them for 2

Sorry I was wrong but you still have to purchase a regular season ticket in December if you want to attend that game . They should give members the choice of what game they don't want to go to as it seems they have decided that New Years Eve attendance is mandatory for all season ticket holders .

I'm confused, do people expect additional games accessible for free?

Ofcourse the NBL wants to capitalise on popularity to provide more games and increase revenue. That’s what we should be hoping they do!

Re the broadcast, I know that’s what was reported, however I noticed NBL removed ESPN and 10 from the partners.

It could be benign, but is that a sign we could see DAZN through Foxtel buy the rights instead and maybe a different FTA provider from 10?

I think 7mate/7Plus would be the likely place if they did get the Ignite Cup rights rather than main channel 7 itself given the Big Bash conflicts with a lot of it (which they broadcast on Wednesday nights)

If there is two extra games they should have just been added to the price of season tickets rather than being purchased separately. That's not how you keep a fan base happy. As far as I know there's nothing said of Adelaide's ticket situation as far as paying more for ignite.

That's what I was getting at ME. Was wondering if other clubs included the extra tickets in pricing or if the NBL had made them separate games on purpose.

Seems it's just an ad-hoc approach on a club-by-club basis.

I imagine it'd be a choice by the club.

For Adelaide, they’re playing them at the Ent Centre so it makes sense to add them on as part of the membership and charge more.

Another club might be using those games to play regionally in which case they wouldn’t force their members to pay for games they won’t go to.

Another club might think that their fans are more cost conscious and therefore choose to treat them separately.

Another club might see it as a good opportunity to give more casuals a chance to get tickets to games that are otherwise sold out (this could be Perth/Adelaide in the future if they don’t go regionally).
