Wildcats Sign PG Mason Jones as 3rd Import.

On nbl.com.au,

Main Headline: "Wildcats sign G League star as final import"

Sub Heading: "The Perth Wildcats are reportedly closing in on signing Mason Jones as their final import for NBL26." (?????)

Claims played 51 NBA games but for 5 different teams. Not sure if that's good or atrocious? Obviously, Perth think it's "good".

Seems a bit of an odd choice- Cats needed a pass-first, driving to the key style PG imo

This guy seems to be more of a pure shooter, albeit one that can create his own shot, but doesn't look like one that will be feeding JLA.

The cats needed an out and out bucket getter and they got one. JLA is also that but its hard to give the ball to a footer in clutch time. You ideally want your best player to be a ball handler e.g. Cotton.

Jones is coming off a two-way deal with the Sacramento Kings; he averaged 23.6 ppg (44.7% 3PT; 8.4 3PA), 5.0 rpg, and 7.8 apg for the Stockton Kings in the NBA G-League.

Was also the G-League finals MVP. Got 13 assists which is the second highest in playoff history.

hey Wildnation, let's not let the news out of Adelaide overshadow what is I think a good get for us.

Has good size for the point, his assist numbers seem strong and outside shooting seems elite. Can put the ball in the whole, which people may say is not needed as he have plenty of scorers - until the game when they all go cold and we need it.

Lets go MJ, 47 in the GLeague Semi's, shoots so effortlessly, good body control and finishing on drives, finds cutters very well.

This guy is a jet. 44% from three on almost 9 attempts per game last season is outrageous. 8 assists per game too, played a lot on ball so can clearly play-make and create, not just a scorer off the bounce. Genuine combo guard, should be able to fit well next to Henshall or Dech/Pepper. Defence the only question for mine.

Rob T. How could 51 NBA games be considered a deterent or bad thing? Most local NBL players are no where near even being considered for NBA level. If you're good enough to even get into the NBA system, then this by its own nature is already a higher achievement than landing in the NBL of Australia. I don't understand this logic. He has already played in the highest level in the world. The NBL is no where near it. Of course it is good. He is already above an NBL resume and the NBL is the league he is coming to.

Perth are probably looking for the next Cotton. How did they almost sign the Hawks import and then arrive at this guy so quickly? Strange.

Michael Houben reporting that Jones turned down around US$900k (around $1.3million Australian) from the Chinese league to choose the NBL as a better launching pad back into the NBA. Wow.

I think Jones was pondering a CBA deal that would pay more - but he wants to get back to the NBA so chose us instead - so that availability might have surfaced in the last 24hrs.

Master Chief, yes, to all you said. No-one makes "it" if they are "no good". My inference was stupid. Sorry.

Still, with my little knowledge, playing an average of only 10 games per team seems odd, to me. Don't you think so too?

and 20 February.

As traditional rivals the Sixers and Wildcats play each other four times a season.

China pays a lot more than Australia but it's an inferior standard and thus playing well there isn't looked upon as favourably by NBA scouts compared to a tougher league like the NBL.

Plus with a number of players consistently going from the NBL to the NBA these days more NBA eyeballs are on the NBL than ever before.

Good signing. Big physical guard who can shoot and is a good distributor.

Rob T, definitely not stupid! And you don't need to apologise. It’s a valid observation. I just don’t agree with the logic.

Regarding only playing 10 minutes? Well this is a similar point. This is still a very reasonable achievement and quite consistent for someone in and out of the NBA system. He obviously has talent. But we have to remember that players playing any more consistently than that are in the NBA anyway. So it becomes an impossible and illogical expectation for NBL clubs to get anyone above that because if they are good enough to play in the NBA then they play in the NBA. So no I wouldn’t agree that 10 minutes only is odd at all. That is fairly consistent for someone coming to a much lesser league
