Bulls re-sign Josh Giddey: 4 years $100m

The Chicago Bulls re-signed guard Josh Giddey to a reported four-year, $100 million contract, ending the months-long stalemate between both sides.
ESPN:
Grade: B-

Giddey is the second of the four key restricted free agents whose negotiations lingered well into the offseason to re-sign with his team, and the first to strike a long-term deal after Cam Thomas accepted the Brooklyn Nets' qualifying offer.

Compared with Thomas, Giddey had far more leverage on his side. Chicago gave up key contributor Alex Caruso to get Giddey from the Oklahoma City Thunder last summer, and Giddey's loftier qualifying offer ($11-plus million) made playing out this season a more viable threat if the Bulls deal wasn't for more than $20 million per year.

Not for the money he wanted and a bit surprised he wasn't able to get a player option on the final year but then again the Bulls had the stronger hand.

Bulls definitely had the upper hand in this, and I actually think in the end Giddey did well to hold firm and get this which i think was always around the bottom end of his fair value (30m i think was the top end).

He's got some security now and will see if he can prove that he'll be a valuable player on a winning team by working on his weaknesses.

He'll still be only 26 next time he's an unrestricted free agent, so if he does enough he should be able to get a deal worth a lot more than this then.

He's doing alright- yearly salary of double the AFL's salary cap!

But based on NBA market value, that's a good deal for the Bulls.

Good on Josh and his management for holding firm. Comparing AFL salary cap to NBA is not apples for apples.

Comparing to afl shows that today's basketball players have real choice re salary options, before LK took over the league, anyone that very good at both took afl as there wasn’t any money in basketball. Now the nbl, pays ok and real good for some, or head to Europe, Japan and even other Asian countries to make a fair living and travel the world. You even can get paid to go to college now, how good is that, none of this was available previously.

Surprised he didn't just take the qualifying offer for 1 season would have been a free agent after it and there would have been a lot more teams with cap space
