Euroleague visit a success - will become yearly event

From code sports -

"EUROLEAGUE IS HERE TO STAY
The NBL's historic partnership with EuroLeague heavyweights Panathinaikos and Partizan is set to become an annual event with both clubs "blown away" by the professionalism and hospitality on display in Australia.

And in a further boost, it is rumoured an NBL team could be invited to play in Partizan’s traditional open-air game in Belgrade next year.

It follows a successful maiden year of the Pavlos Giannakopoulos tournament in Melbourne and Sydney last week - the first time the event has been held outside of Europe.

NBL Director Nikola Milivojevic is excited to continue the respected relationship with heavyweights Panathinaikos and Partizan.

“It was always about creating something that hasn’t been done before – a history making event,” Milivojevic said.

“What happens in the Euro basketball is things don’t just happen once if everything goes well.

“You see their historical partnerships like Panathinaikos and Partizan and it is because they create a special bond.

“Both clubs enjoyed their time in Australia and they want to continue building their brands in our market, plus they received a benefit playing against our NBL teams.”

Panathinaikos and Partizan also attracted significant eyeballs via social media, showcasing the global popularity of the clubs.

The tournament generated over 37 million video views, reaching more than 282 million fans and driving 57 million engagements across social media.

Partizan president Ostoja Mijailović had 3.2 million views on his personal page alone."

Looks like we're invited to the open air game in Serbia too which is a hell of a spectacle.

Great result

Does anyone know what the ticket prices were for the Melbourne or Sydney games? The NBA*NBL prices are outrageous (starting from $179 for adults for Rod Laver nosebleed) and I'm wondering what the Euro prices were in comparison

I am not sure 179 for tickets for an NBA team that has had to travel down here is unreasonable. But they managed to pack out the stadiums down here so I can only imagine tickets were cheaper.

Its good news as it was fun.

I think the pricing may need to be looked at, particularly if it becomes more regular. Everybody that I know who went to the game last Thursday got in when it was the last minute half price or two for one sales. That isn't sustainable, particular when there is a risk of diminishing returns. From a once off to every year changes the value proposition significantly.

Yeah, these things don't always work out, I'm reminded of St Kilda's ill-fated attempt at playing Anzac Day footy in NZ: Year 1 solid crowd, year 2 dropped significantly, year 3 again dropped and no year 4. I'm optimistic the Euroleague bball will be an ongoing success but it's a fair point that 1 year doesn't fully prove anything just yet.

And ME I totally disagree, I'm a bball junkie but wouldn't give any consideration to paying those prices for a low-intensity scratch match where the best players will probably play 15 minutes before the bench is emptied with guys of a similar ilk to many NBL imports.

And to clarify, yeah the NBL guys will be going hard but very much doubt Zion Williamson and Dejounte Murray will be giving 110% out there (if they're playing at all).

So Cram what were the prices last Thursday? I would've liked to go but had a prior engagement so didn't even look at it

At least NBA*NBL has a fan night with 3 point contest etc at a reasonable price point, I'll be there

We paid 44.50 for middle of the upper tier on the corner which was during the half price sale. So cheaper than the NBA tickets for sure, and at the half price I think well worth it. At full price I would probably only consider it if my mate who's a life long Partizan fan wanted to go (he was actually in Europe at the time, poor fella).

Interesting, yeah I feel much the same as you about those prices, and as you said, it sounds like most punters did based on the fact they had a last minute half-price sale at all. Good that it sold out eventually.

Great result, ticket prices got meet the market, to expensive no one turns up, yes we all want to profit but if you set the bar to high punters stay away. It certainly looked fantastic on TV, beautiful basketball.

From a once off to every year changes the value proposition significantly.

The organisers can fade this by rotating host cities.

I looked at tickets a few days prior and the Sydney game only had a few seats left on line for purchase (only a handful) - so how do last minute cheap seats suddenly appear ?

Cant speak for Sydney, but for the Melbourne one there were a few 24 hour periods a few weeks and then a few days out with half price tickets

Tickets were fairly priced initially in Sydney. I bought them a month out at $50pp ($25 for kids) to sit in reasonably good seats (lower section behind the basket, not on the court) - better seating was about as expensive or more expensive than a regular season Kings' game. My usual member seats (a little better than where we sat on Sunday, and not partly obscured) were about 2x what they normally are (I believe, been awhile since I actually bought individual tickets). My mate bought 50% reduced tickets a few days out. Still, it was value for money given the two games, but would have preferred an earlier tip off so we could stay for the 2nd game, just a bit late with kids on a school night.

Possibly initially only lower bowl seats were released and then they released the discounted upper-bowl seats and reduced the remainder lower bowl seats in Sydney, not sure.

Could six non-NBL teams join annually for preseason and have a knockout comp with sixteen teams?

E.g. 1 China, 1 South America, 1 G League, 3 European teams.

It could be named the Southern Hemisphere Invitational Tournament (SHIT)
