Hawks @ Wildcats

Part 2 of tonight's double-header features McGee vs JLA, which I'm very much looking forward to, as well as one of the more pointless openings of a stadium roof in recent memory.
Certainly no worries about sun in the fans' eyes for this 7:30pm (local time) tip-off.

The database of form so far this season says that both teams aren't quite as good as Tassie, and not much else.

I'm sure Mason Jones is going to be a good player.

Still makes no sense to me why Perth didn’t go for a true point guard though. Then again a lot of what Perth does doesn’t make sense lately...

I don't think a "true point guard" is a necessity tbh. I find it a bit of an outdated concept, and I'd like to think that playing smart basketball isn't something that needs to be driven by one guy.

You do need a quality backcourt rotation though. Time will tell whether Perth's is good enough.
Hopefully Dech is not too many games away from a return because he has a role to play in it. We haven't seen Henshall's best basketball yet this season either.
The jury is out on Jones but I don't think we need to rush to a verdict.

Another great game should happen here. Some tantalising match ups, JLA v McGee is worth entry money on its own. I won't jinx either side, I’ll just hopefully enjoy a second cracker game tonight.

Henshall stepping up as primary ball handling guard might help Mason.

Some commentators tend to be repetitive, and also talk a bit too much

Bayles has been super impressive since the beginning of the intercontinental cup.
His defensive pressure and energy on the offensive end is a great spark for the whole team

Jaron is ironically the best point guard Perth have. Give me him over Henshall any day.

Wildcats finally realised they should try pressuring and swiping back.

Don't whinge to the ref just play to the way it’s been called

Without checking the box score I'm guessing Bolden is about -30 on the +/-

Playing that horribly and ending the half up a point is rather LOL

Wouldn't be a wildcats game without Wagstaff falling to the floor.

Rillie snr won the coaching battle, whoever was doing subs for hawks blew it. Doolittle and Windler excellent again today. I'm not a fan of the open roof, don’t see a need for it, plus if the commentary mentioned it one more time I’d been sick. Hawks got lot work to do. Why so little time for Peatling.

Im guessing illegal screens aren't a thing anymore??? What is called and what is let go is strange, sometimes comical. Not a ft fest good, but losing control of a game that wasnt close, bad.

Why would you play an open roof game at this time of year?

Anon, "Im guessing illegal screens aren't a thing anymore???".

Are you referring to "in general" or to McGee, in particular, sticking his bum out on screens a la Tony Ronaldson? Surprised that that wasn't called at all.

Further, on McGee (no, this is not a hate session on him), anyone else think he was a bit sooky on some contacts? Went down and stayed down for a while, reacted badly and limped (exaggerated) away from another contact, that sort of thing. Or were the Wildcats "welcoming" him to Perth and working him over?

Apart from that (and the screening) he was fairly stunning for the Hawks. He lives up to the hype!

McGee screens yes looked like this <... but Bolden and even Froling were just making guys and often moving. Now maybe the Perth guys should adjust ro how its been called, but I thought it was excessive. McGee is just that prototypical nba guy, he is very good, but Perth adjusted and attacked him better

Bolden and Blanchfield were very poor at both ends of the floor, I'm not certain why Harry was brought in to be an outside threat only, his D also just average.

Cats were impressive, JLA and the three imports really give this team backbone. Pepper was better and R jnr been impressive. They certainly going to be in the mix, probably won’t win it imo.

An easy band-wagon to get on atm...Jaron Rillie to be an absolute star, and soon.

Hey Dad, You should be offering him an extension on his 2 yr contract.

Start with adding zeros after the 2.

Then move him from the bench, as a SG, to the starting PG.

Finally, lose the "DP" from his roster ID, it's ridiculous to call him that!

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that would be the first 200 year contract in NBL history

"Someone please correct me if I'm wrong," No. You're not. You're spot on.

"but I believe that would be the first 200 year contract in NBL history". And not just NBL history. You're really on the ball today, aren't you Luuuc? That's 2 from 2.
