Sixers v JJs Round 4

No thread yet, and it's the day after?? S'up all?

Did not get through the game last night so watched the 2nd half this am. Amazing what a good night's rest can do for your game. Certainly fixed mine. What a second half.

The 2 Bryces were doing what Bryces seem to do so well. Both led their teams in Scoring, assisting and running their teams. Cotton, for the Sixers had 29 pts, 9 asts and 3 steals while Hamilton, a JJ, had 22 pts and 9 asts.

Coincidentally, the two teams' centres, were both next best contributors on their teams and virtually cancelled each other out.
Once again it was the 36ers to win that battle, too with Humphries 24 pts bettering Magnay's 17. Magnay won the rebounds, 6 to 5.

Similarities continued with both teams featuring newish recruits. Adelaide had Nick Rakocevic in the PF spot deliver 8 pts and 7 rebs, while for the JJs, TJ Starks also had 8 pts and 5 asts.

The "supporting" cast for both sides performed fairly evenly too, with the final going to the home side, 98 / 89 in what I thought , was a very entertaining game (I don't follow either team).

Either Humphries or Rakocevic needs to shave their beard or cut their hair, asap!

My 2 points on the game

-Marshall looks so good with Tassie, may not be the most skilled player but 100% heart hustle and effort in every play

-Why the hell would you close out the game with Drmic and Ayre over Starks and Campbell

I can see the logic in it both Drmic & Ayre are niggler/shit-stirrer types and I thought Ayre was doing a good job of getting under Cotton's skin. Campbell's not much chop.

It was a good game but one the Sixers never looked in danger of losing despite the close scores at times. Might be the first time I've seen Humphries get the better of Magnay who normally with his physicality gets in Ice's head. Best game he's played in a long time.

I'm really liking the look of Rakocevic his defence and rebounding is exactly what this tean needed not Trez and his nonsense. But yeah agreed he and Ice look identical at times, the trick I find telling them apart is Ice wears a single number (6 or 8) and Rakocevic is two numbers, 31 I think.

Got to mention Cheatham and the incredible work he's doing ignoring his own scoring to concentrate on rebounds, defence and hustle.

Cheatham has been great. I'm sure the box score watchers will look and say he's not doing great cause he's only averaging 6.7ppg, but I have been massively impressed with how hard he's worked, how unselfish he's been (especially on offense) and the willingness to do whats required of him. Rakocevic seems to have slotted in perfectly too.

Humphries seems to be thriving with a guard getting a lot of attention and then not having Harrell there to get those touches either. The mix just seems infinitely better this year, with a little less ego and a few more guys willing to do whatever they need to do to help the team. Cotton is going to be the guy that decides how far they go probably and they still may not get past a team like MU, but so far across the board the 36ers look much more cohesive and together at last year which felt like individual talented pieces, rather than a team if you know what I mean.

I really enjoyed the game. Loved the battle of the bigs. Humphries was excellent, his passing was also top class as well as his attitude. Cheatham the same. Cotton is just a marvel, superb player. Sixers got a good balanced squad playing for each other at present, if it stays this way, top two.
JJs need Deng back, amazing how much you can miss a player off the bench like that, does all the small stuff very well at both ends. Hamilton looks really good, Bannon was ok but Cheatham got the money. Magnay needs help, hopefully his body will stand up to big minutes. Should be top four.
Much better commentary, it was about the game, tactics, etc, not how good they were when they played or any other BS. Refs were great again.
Both coaches did a fine job, Roth we know but Wells was good as well.

Ayre got into it with DJV as well when DJ knocked over Magnay who was setting a screen and then DJ put his hand out to help Magnay up and Ayre ran over and slapped DJ's hand away. Just seemed a bit aggravated in general at times.

Helping an opposition player to get up is a great opportunity to trash-talk him, right in his face.

Ben Ayre has a mouth far bigger than his talent level I'm afraid

Impressive the way Adelaide controlled the game, especially against Tassie. Played in a very balanced way.

If Humphries remains consistent, the Harrell departure looks more and more like a blessing, as many have predicted. He is looking seriously good so far. Let's hope it continues.

Pretty hard to fault the team so far. They have the next two at home, so are a good chance to go 5-0. If they can get a bit of a headstart with all these home games, it gives them the luxury of not rushing that import spot. Are we any clearer on what that should be after 3 games?

I don't know why it's necessary for the schedule to be so over the place though. Adelaide play 4 of the first 5 at home, Tassie the opposite. They return home next week, then fly to NZ two days later. I know it all evens out, and everyone has their turn, but does it really need to be like that in this league?

Probably does. We're a big country with a small league, spread all over that big country plus NZ.

Good for Sixers to get the win, looked the better group all game. Still a bit of work to do with chemistry. Cheatham needs to be confident in attacking the ring, will add another level to this tram if he gets going offensively.
JJ's got away with lot of scragging. Ayre holding onto Cotton off the ball, arms around his waist, grabbing the singlet he wouldn't have looked out of place tagging Daicos in AFL. Refs call the fouls when players breathe on him in the act of shooting but let them do whatever they want off the ball.
