Cairns v Perth Round 4

No thread yet, and it's the day of? S'up all? (that's 2 times, this AM)

No ties with either team but looking forward to Andrews v Jones. I don't see either as "guns" but steady, useful guards. My impression is that both would be excellent 3rd imports, off the bench, than starters but both are needed in their teams' strongest line-ups.

Young Rillie, listed as a SG, will be the real difference in the guard spot tonight. Apar fro him, no-one frightens me as the SG,

If Schofield doesn't get going, and soon, Windler will dominate the 3.

Doolittle v McVeigh should be a beauty at the PF but won't be! Doolittle will win the "role" but McVeigh may still win the night. to me, he just seems more flexible/versatile(?) with his skill set.

Finally, with only Richardson, a DP, as protection for Lee, I expect the Cairns centre to get spanked, first by JLA, then by Okwera. St Johns on stand by?

Perth, comfortably, raising the question, "was Cairns moving to private ownership just a more expensive form of what was?"

RobT - Cairns has not moved to private ownership as yet. Current sponsors have made increased contributions to allow higher spending on players.

Admiral not uplifting the league defensively

Cats away strip is snazzy, allowing the lead to evaporate like that in the first not so much

Taipans look handy until their depth gets tested. Hard to see them staying in this. Forde really needs to stagger his subs better otherwise it's all or nothing

Tiapans would be very happy with the 1/4 time score after the start. Cats still let in easy buckets.

Admiral can certainly score though. Cats go from a rolls Royce to a GW in an instant.

I'm not sure who'll win this game, but I'm pretty sure Adelaide and Melbourne will destroy either of them.

Kings and JJs will get these two as well on today's form.

Rillie has been great at both ends, a real find, can score, smart and plays good D.

Cairns are surprising me. Also wonder if they can keep it up for 40. At half time, 43/41 to Taipans with Lee (12pts) and Schofield (11) leading it for Cairns. JLA in front and on his own with 16 for the Wildcats.

Real good contest, so far.

Should have a good finish happening here. Jones very unlucky imo on that rebound, yes he hit the other player but it certainly wasn't intentional.

Some absolutely shocking calls going against perth here. Ref's seemingly loving the Mayo tonight

Feels like Windler and JLA are the only Wildcats that turned up tonight.

Cats seem to be playing well below their potential. Doolittle and windler look good in their roles but pepper, Jones, henshall, etc look like they're trying to force things without any real structure

Really like Andrew Andrews. Can get a bit trigger happy, but fun guy to watch

Andrew Andrews should get a technical foulbfor falling on the floor on that three... thats a joke to reward that.

Agreed, Kolzee.
Cats are very much still a work in progress.
That was an ugly, narrow win that should have been a lot easier.
Plenty of potential for improvement is the silver lining.

Windler was great, especially on the right hand driving to the bucket.

The block on Lee late in the 4th was a horrendous call - JLA dropped the shoulder and rammed him.

Taipans inability to grab an offensive board was key in losing the game. McVeigh at the 4 hurts them in the glass.

Mason Jones not really looking like NBL Calibre. Seems very slow footed, indecisive, lacks aggression, not particularly athletic. Not sure what he brings. Use can see on Cairns side that Andrews brings his own scoring and game, Mason is brining passing and hesitating.

I think if his minutes had been given to a bunch of the other cats players it might of been an easier win.

Yeh, great game. Cats deserved the win, slightly better. McVeigh really playing the team game, been excellent, Andrew's the same, Lee good, the Admiral can score but average on D, Cairns just not strong enough on bench and to shallow. Windler, JLA great, Doolittle and Rillie solid. Pepper is realising that nbl is lot tougher than nbl1. Henshal also struggled. Cats bench also looking not great either.
Cairns need an extra big soon if Waardenburg is out to much longer, an old head that can play D, they have got plenty scoring power, it would help out McVeigh as well

Unless Perth gets more guard production I don't see them making any noise this season. Pepper, he shall and jones look awful. When fillies boy is you’re best guard option you know things are not going well.JLA and and Dylan are the only really consistent players right now. Positive is they are 3-1 but they will get demolished by Adelaide and United unless they get more guard production
