Hawks extend Dyson Daniels, $100m/4y

Atlanta Hawks All-Defensive guard Dyson Daniels has agreed to a four-year, $100 million rookie contract extension with the franchise, agent Daniel Moldovan of Lighthouse Sports Management tells ESPN.

Daniels won the NBA's Most Improved Player of the Year, was runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year, made first team All-Defense and finished with 229 steals last season, the most in a season by any player since Gary Payton in 1995-96.

Consensus seems to be that this is a reasonable deal for both sides. Daniels averaged 14/6/4 for a middling team on the up, with a load of steals, giving huge defensive value to Atlanta.

Does his role change much with Alexander-Walker joining them?

At 59% FT, is he at risk of being hacked out of the post-season?

Very good deal for Dyson. Only put together one decent season but anything could happen this season a serious injury that curtails his career, a coaching change, falling out of the rotation etc.

He probably could've gotten more money on the open market next off-season but $100M USD is obviously life changing money and could set him and his family up for generations. Why risk all that for maybe an extra $5M a year? Not worth it.

For $100m you'd think he'd spend some time working on that FT% .... kinda mind boggling you can make it to that level shooting that low from the line

Yeah agreed. The Suggs deal for 150m/5 was probably the ceiling and while the total is a lot lower, this deal is fair in comparison.

Also this season showed restricted FA can be tough these days. Getting guaranteed 100m is a great outcome. He's still young enough that by the time he reaches UFA he will be in his prime and can cash in then (if he continues to improve, particularly his shooting).
