Boomers Squad to v Tall Blacks

From: NBL web site.

"The Australian Boomers have unveiled their 12-person squad for the upcoming 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers."

Australian Boomers squad

Alex Ducas
Angus Glover
Dash Daniels
Elijah Pepper
Jack White
Jaylin Galloway
Jordan Hunter
Josh Bannan
Nick Kay
Owen Foxwell
Will Hickey
Will Magnay

A good squad and very representative of how good we are, to be able to come up with that "B" team version of the Boomers.

I am disappointed that Bryce is not on that list. I believe that now that he is an Australian, and that he is eligible, available and the best Aust PG/SG in the NBL, a lock to get chosen. But he's not there!

"The team is full", "we really don't need him at this level", "Foxwell and Hickey are doing fine", all true!

"Who do we drop?" Anyone! Magnay, if you have to.

Special treatment, because it's Bryce? Damn right!

I can only imagine that he chose to not play, which is all the more distressing as it suggests that he is lost to the Boomers.

I don't want that to be the case! Your thoughts?

Yeah I think if available Bryce should be an auto inclusion. I think perhaps they'll need to do some mending of fences with him after everything that happened and perhaps get him involved in some camps where more of the big names turn up so he doesn't just feel like a "you'll do for now".

Especially given that, while that squad looks good, shot creation is the weakest area.

For anyone who suggests "he'd never beat out Thybulle so why bother?" its always good to have all of your options open. Both guys are without doubt in our best 20 players currently and should be part of any full 20 man squad.

With Daniels our clear number 1 stopper and Green solid in that role, Matiese is not the 100% inclusion he always was, especially if we're struggling to find good shot creators.

I wouldn't have thought Cotton would make himself available for these mickey mouse FIBA window games. Looking at that roster it would appear others like Goulding have done the same.

No one chooses Thybulle over Cotton, if he was available he should be the first name on the page, as was the previous great Gaze.

With some of the lengthy defenders we have that can defend AND play offense, Thybulle is excess to requirements and a more limited player than the other prospects. Cotton, however, can score the ball and we're not full of guys that can create their own shot. Proctor looks promising. Giddey and Daniels seem to be developing in that area. But out of every player in our depth chart the guy I would trust to pull a bucket out of his proverbial when nothing else is clicking is Cotton. And for that much he should be getting a serious look.

As far as this squad goes, they should be too much for New Zealand. NZ have a few decent players but not the same depth and we should really be a level above. I'd say our guard rotation is a bit weak compared to our forward/centers but it shouldnt matter much in this setting. A cotton - DJ - Delly - Goulding would add a lot of credibility to our line up. I am wondering why Delly isnt putting his hand up as well? Has he just accepted that another Olympics is beyond him?

The results of the games v NZ could be hugely important moving into the 2nd phase.
