Adelaide v Illawarra - a reflection a few days late

So I get that most people are happy enough with a win, but a lot didnt pass the eye test for me in this game. For one, it looks like we don't have an offense outside of Cotton. We're not getting enough consistently from Cheatham outside of rebounds for his price. DJ is overrated and provides little. And our bench is really not good - White, Kenyon, Rasmussan aren't good enough for the league and should stick with the NBL1. When Wells ran a few complete bench line ups it became clear to me this guy doesn't know what the hell he's doing. So while we will win games here and there I cant see this team as a contender until we get another import and we nail some of these bums to the bench. I know this will offend some people who take special interest in young bench guys but it's just a fact. I'd rather they give Che Brogan a run.

Watching kings v united last night imo Sixers are not in that bracket yet, imo Cheatham and DJV have really been team oriented which is good , I've never understood the love of White, again a very average player imo that has the very occasional good game. Rasmussen is ok but again he should just concentrate on what he’s good at, D and team first. Wells I don’t know whether he talks a good game or coaches a good game yet. Time will tell but imo Melbourne, Sydney and SEM probably got them and cats just starting to roll. Sixers really should try to get home court advantage in finals and see what happens. I’ve never really supported teams, I follow players, just a personal choice but I’d be very happy if Sixers could win it.

With White it basically feels like the best of a bad situation sorta thing. He's the one guy off the bench who can push the ball up court, so they have to accept his bad with the bit of good he provides. If they did end up grabbing another ball handling guard with the 3rd import spot then his minutes would be the first to dry up.

Jason Cadee would have been the perfect guy to be in that role still.

Despite losing against Melbourne, I think the Sixers put in a far better performance against them on their home floor than they did in the win against the Hawks. The Melbourne game showed we can mix it against the big boys but there are legitimate concerns about the quality of the Sixers bench and in particular their ability to score.

Rakocevic is a good backup big man but he's hardly going to score a lot. It's very hard to understand what Wells was doing in the first half with that ridiculous line up where no one on the floor could actually score. We even had guys that refused to look at the basket when wide open. The Hawks got back into the game as a result.

Our bench doesn't compare to the likes of Melbourne who have Goulding coming in to provide instant offence. They still have Shea Ili to come back too. Given we have a very busy schedule coming up, it's imperative that we get a third import in a hurry so we actually have some quality bench scoring. Sooner rather than later so we can work them into the team and they can get used to the league etc.
