Sixers to adjust training-games relationship

After player meetings yesterday, Smyth and Breheny are looking to mix up the minutes a bit and play those players who have been performing at training.

"Now we've had four games in eight days. Effectively we've had 16 games in about 60 days and our time in between has been spent more on recovery than preparation."
SJ Breheny
Could be fair to assume that this was the reason Paul Rees was a DNP against West Sydney on NYE?

its a tough schedule this year and alot of the teams who have had the 4 in 8 scenario have not faired well, strange how all the knockers and people who want heads to roll didnt bring this up

not easy to travel the contenant in 8 days let alone be required to play 4 games and do rehab training and other commitments (family media club)

and thomo so many teams have handled it with ease - they are all aware of it at the start of the season.

it is not something that suddenly occurs.

AFL teams face it as well and coaches and support staff as well as the players should 'case manage' the scenario.

sorry the tough draw doesn't wash for the abysmal form for the team.

they ARE a professional paid unit and they are paid to handle these types of situations.

This is why the 36ers need 10 players who can all consistently contribute on the court.

no team in the NBL has 10 players that can all contribute on court....and the sixers are not the worst offenders...having forman, nash, rees and hill off the bench is about as good as anyone....hambour is clearly not up to it....neither gerlach or madgen or any of the others.....

- no they don't.

AFL teams play one game per week.

I'm sorry but there is no fatigue excuse to lose by 44pts. Without Maher a loss was on the cards but 44pts. = internal problems or worse still, lack of heart.

I love some AFL teams have to play in Perth, then 6 days later play somewhere else and they all bitch and moan and say it causes too many injuries and fatigue --- FAR OUT! The NBL has to travel overseas and play multiple games in one week.

Do people think the NBL is overschelduling games though?

Playing a 33 game season in the time alotted is not an exceptionally tough ask. But what is ridiculous is playing 4 games in 8 days then being off for 10 days! That is Adelaide's current schedule.

Can someone please explain to me who thought that this was a good idea when developing the league schedule?

Also, Hambour, Gerlach and Madgen have played a total of zero seconds in front of the Adelaide crowd this year, so how can anyone have reached the conclusion that they "aren't up to it"?

The NBA seem to manage to play 82 games in a season. They backup game after game for weeks. this is professional sport. Full time playing ball.
I know the intensity is different but how many of us play nearly every night of the week I play 4 games a week nearly every week, only social but hey I still work 40 to 50 hours a week also.
I think its funny how so many pro athletes and potentially the media escalate little thinks like 4 games in 8 days.
