comparing 2004/2005 roster to 2001/2002 roster

2001/2002 team

Maher/Williams
Farley/Illman
Nash/Sapwell/Holmes
Stiff/Garrison/Truslove
Rees/Oscar

2004/2005 team

Maher/Williams?
Farley/Ng/Puddifoot?
Holmes/Nash
Dusty/Oscar
Cooper/Rees/Hambour?

Comparing (2001/2002 team on lest hand side)

Maher vs Maher:Equal Talent
Farley vs Farley:Equal Talent
Nash vs Holmes:Holmes
Stiff vs Dusty:Dusty
Rees vs Cooper:Equal Talent or Rees was better than Cooper
Williams vs Williams?:Williams now is better than 2-3 years ago
Illman vs Ng: Illman but if Ng toghens up he could get some decent numbers up on the scoreboard
Sapwell vs Nash: If his injuries hold up then Nash
Garrison vs Oscar:Garrison
Oscar vs Rees:Rees
Truslove vs Hambour?:Hambour
Holmes vs Puddifoot?:Puddifoot

Comparison results:

2001/2002: 2 players better
2004/2005: 7 players better
Equal Talent: 2 players (Maher and Farley)

Team that is better: 2004/2005

If my predictions are right, this could end up the table at the end of the regular season

Brisbane Bullets
Townsville Crocodiles
Wollongong Hawks
Adelaide 36ers
Melbourne Tigers
Cairns Taipans
Sydney Kings
West Sydney Razorbacks

Hunter Pirates
New Zealand Breakers
Perth Wildcats

I would pick Truslove and Holmes in 2001 over Hambour and Puddifoot in 2004. And I don't think the fringe players have a substantial impact.

Also, Nash (15 games) and Garrison (18 games) basically split that season due to Nash's injury.

2001/2002 team:
Maher/Williams
Farley/Illman
(Nash-Garrison)/Sapwell
Stiff/Holmes
Rees/Oscar

2004/2005 team:
Maher/Williams?
Farley/Ng
Holmes/Nash
Dusty/Oscar
Cooper/Rees

Same at the 1 spot, 2001 better at the 2, I would take Holmes and Nash this year over Nash/Garrison and Sapwell. I'd take Dusty and Oscar this year over Stiff and Jacob for 2001. And I think Cooper and Rees beat Rees and Oscar in his rookie year.

I think it's a better team this year but you have to remember that the roster in 2001/02 was slanted towards developing for the future and were hardly even expected to make the play-offs. One of the other less-fancied teams this year could do the same thing; you never know.

I think I'd take this years team.

Dusty is superb & Jacob is ready to become a star.

We should be looking at top 4ish I'd say. Hopefully the right Willie Farley shows up.
