#70595, obviously Mr/Ms Question doesn't have your great in-depth knowledge of basketball. With your childish post you, in fact, are the idiot!
Mr/Ms Question if you are new to basketball you can ask questions here that will generally be responded to in the manner of #70586.
I can't explain how #70595 can make a post so early in the morning as they must be up early in the morning to go to PRIMARY school!!

As another possible explanation of the player numbers on the floor coaches will often interchange players in number order example a natural 1(PG) can often play a 2(SG) and vice versa and a 3(SF) can also play the 2 spot but unlikely to play the 1 spot. you most likely wouldn't waste a natural 1(PG) in the 3(SF) spot.
There are exceptions to this of course Jye Watson at Centrals would be an example of this a natural 2 player that can play effectively in the 4 spot.

I started playing basketball from about the age of 8 year old (a long time now) and my mum always called the centre spot the pivot. All the way though juniors I seriously can never remember hearing any of my coached refer to the centre position as a pivot.
The way basketball is going t the moment the sport doesn't need doucebags ridiculing anyone new to the sport, we as the basketball community should be open minded and welcoming new people to the sport.

...as we should be regardless of how basketball is going.

(#70595) is obviously a classmate of Bullshit Artist.
Yr 8s in High School don't know the numbers, so i tell them to play centre, etc.
interesting survey would be to ask u14 players if they know the numbers. i was taught it at u14 level, but don't know if its still used as widely...?

you can see where it would sometimes get confusing when you consider the popular 3 guard line ups and sometimes even four. how would you then number the positions!

I have been involved in basketball (as a parent) for about 8/9 years and there are still things I have no idea about. I love this site as it is very informative and heaps of people are very happy to help out with explanations. When I was trying to learn about the positions when my son first started - i used to have it in my head that 1 was usually the shortest and the numbers graduated up to no 5 who was usually the tallest - very basic, but it was how I could keep it in my head. If you are new to basketball - welcome! and dont worry, you will gradually pick things up. Mind you, my son is in Under 20's and still rolls his eyes when I ask a "stupid" question... thats life I guess! At least you are interested, and parents that are interested in their kids activities are important for the basketball community in general.. keep asking questions.
