Centrals charging $20 for trials?

Is this common practice among the other clubs?

Would have thought Centrals would have paid people $20 to attend trials.

Mott you are correct.
People instead of bagging lets have some constructive chat and find out if other clubs charge or if the Lions are the only ones doing it.

George, pretty much all clubs charge a fee to trial.

I guess this would be because Clubs pay fees to nominate teams based on numbers that make trials. When parents / kids pull out after attending trials then it upsets the team nominations.

I think Norwood charge $50. These are deposits and come off the fees.

Ask the club that one though.

This is the worse place to ask any questions and get a sensible, accurate answer as demonstrated by 88940.

Well you would have though in a lower socio economic zone that Centrals operate in, they could get funds to help people whose kids cant afford to play basketball and keep up with the associated costs. How many kids in the district are missing out because of the escalating costs associated with playing for a Club who could not even contemplate playing district competition because of fees, game fees, shoes, etc.

Sturt do not have a trial fee for new members.

After trials they offer places and a $50 intent to pay. SO only those who get a position pay. Existing member pay a $50 intent to play fee if they are continuing.

It may be worded differently at Sturt, but the outcome is the same.
You have to put a down payment on your committment for the up and coming season.
Other than sturt you would find that all kids that trial will make a team. If they dont that would have to be the abnorm.
In the flaky world we live in getting kids and parents to follow through on a committment is the hardest things clubs have to manage.
BSA get blamed when there is program changes, but these occur because clubs are force to withdraw teams nominated because kids dont follow through on committment.By making them make a deposit which is nonrefundable they are more likely to thing more carefully about their committment, as people dont like to pay unless its for something.
It also provides the clubs with cash flow between seasons which is essential for smooth running of clubs.

I have no problem with it if it helps make juniors player and parents commit to the club.

There is a certain percentage in every club where a junior player will chase a division one spot and if they don't get it will stay where they are. It helps the club understand how many player they have to count on.
